2021 Canadian scholarship at University of Waterloo

The University of Waterloo came into existence in the year 1956. And over the years, the institution has grown to become one of the top universities in Canada and the world at large. The main campus of this institution is located  in the city of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The institution has developed a lot of programs to help local and international students achieve their academic goals. And one of such programs is the scholarship scheme made available to students.

This Scholarship is available to international students to study any of the courses in the university. Some of the scholarships are fully funded, while others are partially funded.

Scholarships allow the institution to celebrate and recognize your achievements. Entrance scholarships are available if you’re starting full-time first-year degree studies and are beginning university or college for the first time.

Who gets the award

  • Scholarships are awarded primarily on academic and personal achievement. Bursaries, another type of assistance, are awarded based on financial needs
  • Scholarships are awarded in mid-May once we receive updated grades from Ontario high schools. Details will be listed in your Waterloo Quest account starting in mid-May. Look for the Entrance Awards tab beside the name of your program.

Waterloo International Master’s Award of Excellence

This is meant for international students who wish to undertake Masters degree programs that are research-based, at the University of Waterloo. Faculties will nominate eligible students based on the Faculty’s award allocation. Students will be selected based on academic excellence as demonstrated through their application for admission to the graduate program. The scholarship award is valued at $2,500 per term for a maximum of 5 terms.

Eligibility for the scholarships

Applicants must be International students with a valid Canadian study permit who are registered full time and assessed international tuition fees.

The scholarship will normally be awarded to Masters degree students in research-based programs (thesis or major research paper). Only students entering the first term of their program are eligible.

Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence through criteria established by the Faculty and must meet the academic progress requirements of their program and not have outstanding probationary admission requirements.

PhD Fellowships & Entrance Awards

(a) Engineering Excellence PhD Fellowships

These Fellowships are valued at $120,000 ($30,000 per year over 4 years) and can be held in any research area within the Faculty of Engineering.

(b) Advanced Manufacturing PhD Fellowships

These Fellowships are valued at $160,000 ($40,000 per year over 4 years) and can only be held by students carrying out research in the area of Advanced Manufacturing.

(c) Entrance Awards

In addition to the awards above, the Faculty of Engineering will offer up to 40 Entrance Awards (valued at $5,000) to highly qualified applicants.

Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible for these Fellowships and Awards, applicants must have submitted a complete application to their program of choice by the application deadline, i.e. February 1 (for Fall). Applicants are also strongly encouraged to submit an application for OGS/QEII-GSST by the same deadline.
